Free Wheelin' Block Construction

The block for Free Wheelin' is one of those that is easy and hard at the same time. Seems simple enough, but there is the issue of keeping the orientation of the hst units correct. Here's how I kept it straight:

You will need 4 hst units and a center square.

Fold the center square in half and lay it on top of the lower right unit, aligning the top edges.

Pick up the lower right unit.

Lay it face down on top of the lower right unit, sandwiching the folded center square between them. Join the pieces with a scant 1/4" seam.
Press toward the hst unit on the right.
Pick up the top right hst unit at the top.
Flip it face-down on the folded center square, aligning the left side edges.

Pick up the top left hst unit and flip it face down on the folded center square, aligning the right side edges. ( Don't give up!) Now you should have the folded center square sandwiched between the top right and top left hst units.

Here's how it should look. Join the pieces with a scant 1/4" seam.

Now you have something like this. The folded center piece is sandwiched between the top half of the pinwheel on one side and the bottom half of the pinwheel on the other.

Open up the center piece.

I found it easiest for me to join the final seam in halves. You want to be careful not to sew a fold in the center square.
So, stitch half of the seam, and then the other half.
Open 'er up, and Ta-Da!
